The seminar focuses on the oeuvre and experience of Helmut Lachenmann as an internationally renowned composer and teacher. It is aimed at composers who present their works and would like to think and discuss the topic of \u201cComposing Today\u201d with Lachenmann, as well as at interpreters who, not least by means of Lachenmann\u2019s music, would like to familiarize themselves with unusual instrumental techniques and the performance practice associated with them. The composers shall present themselves in writing, and include their scores or sound records. Probably not all of the works presented can be discussed in detail. It is also possible to attend the seminars as a listener. Helmut Lachenmann will be present as Composer-in-Residence at Chesa da Cultura throughout the course. The seminar will open on July 5th, 2018, at 6 p.m. with a joint dinner. The opening concert with works by Helmut Lachenmann will take place on Saturday, July 7th, 2018, at 8.30 p.m. The closing concert with the participants will take place on July 11th, 2018, at 8.30 p.m, at the music hall of Chesa da Cultura.<\/p>\n

With Mrs Shizuyo Oka<\/strong> (clarinet), Mrs Asa Akerberg<\/strong> (cello), and Mrs Yukiko Sugawara<\/strong> (piano), Helmut Lachenmann supports three outstanding interpreters of his music, who will perform a selection of his works in the opening concert and teach interested participants during the seminar.<\/p>\n

Helmut Lachenmann<\/strong> was born in Stuttgart in 1935. He studied at the local conservatoires, followed by studies in composition in Venice with Luigi Nono. Since 1966, he has been teaching at various universities and institutes on all continents. Numerous awards, including the Bach Prize of the City of Hamburg (1972), Ernst von Siemens Music Prize 1997, Leone di Oro of the Venice Biennale (2008), nomination as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (2010), nomination as Commandeur des Arts et Lettres (2012) followed. Helmut Lachenmann is an honorary doctor of music at the music academies of Hanover, Dresden, and Cologne, a member of the academies of arts in Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Mannheim, and Munich as well as of the Belgian Academy of Sciences, Literature and the Arts.<\/p>\n
